So I had quite the day of shooting with Jen & Johnny for the bridal pictures in Salt Lake City. We also drove out to take pictures at Salt Air as well. We did not venture to far at Salt Air because of the super small nano flesh eating gnats (no lie). They were crazy, I looked like I had chicken pox or something after they were done with me. Luckily Jen stayed in the car and was not attacked by the weapons grade gnats. But the shots of the day turned out stunning (humble opinion of photograpaher only).

I had a rare and unique opportunity to learn all I could about being a photographer in the music industry this last weekend. The information was top notch and I walked away with a solid foundoution of what it takes to make it as a photographer in the music industry. So a few of the guys I work with wanted to send out a Christmas card this year so below are the two pictures they decided to use. Sean (on the far left) wrote a beautiful Christmas poem to go with it. It went as follows...

Away in a train yard, no bed for their dreads.

The little support team, lay down their sweet heads.

When all of a sudden, with a shout and a holler,

came some rival gang bangers,

wearing all the wrong color.

Quick to thier feet, shopping cart at the intruders,

the support team did beat them,

and Kilo did 10-20 for the murders.

I find it so interesting how a home that was once cared for can decay so quickly when void of human life. Its amazing how complete abandonment can cause such an extreme toll when a place is simply...left. A few miles from my home is an official "Murder House" that has been abandoned for many, many years and I have really wanted to do a shoot here. Just walking around the property was a bit freaky. Usually children have around 4 pictures in them before they are spent, not these kids I think they could have done this all night. They loved it and the pictures prove it. Clothing Styles for Photography

Timeless portraits often have understated and classic clothing that doesn’t take attention away from the subjects.

General Suggestions for Everyone:

We recommend dark or medium tone clothing on everyone—it looks great on film and tends to slenderize
Don't mix dark and light outfits. This keeps the group from looking “busy” and allows the faces to stand
out first
Solid (no pattern or subtle-pattern) fabrics are best
Do not wear clothing with obvious logos, brand names, or sayings on clothing. It dates the picture and
draws attention
Long sleeves help keep the focus on your faces instead of your arms (wherever there’s skin showing it
draws the attention)
Shoe styles should blend with the rest of a person’s attire—dark clothing calls for dark shoes and socks.
The group’s clothing style should also blend. Either choose an informal or formal style for the entire
group
Colors can be mixed, as long as they harmonize with one another
Try this: Lay out everyone’s clothing together, and see which outfits stand out. Replace “standouts” until there is a good blend

Special for Outdoors
Choose “earthy” colors that blend well with outdoor surroundings. Think of “earth tones” (dark reds,
purples, greens, grays, browns, taupe, etc)

Special for Women
Dark or opaque hose and shoes for formal groups.

Special for Men
Dress shirts need a jacket or sweater over them.
Ties date portraits quickly. If you do use one choose a classic pattern of moderate width.
Darker pants and shoes are best for group portraits.

Special for Large Groups
Clothing can make a huge difference. Don’t mix dark and light clothing in the same group. This way the
image will be unified and allow the viewer to see faces rather than clothing.
Ask everyone to be conscience of their shoes, as we’ll always see the front row of feet in the image.
Athletic shoes should not be worn. They will stand out.
Some ideas for large group coordination are:
1) have everyone wear the same color (eg.-blue top, khaki pants. Variety in the shade/hue is fine);

2) have individual families/groups within the group wear different but coordinating colors (eg-all colors are earth tones, but one family is burgundy, another green, another blue etc.);

3) pick a few matching colors in same hue, everyone gets to select the color they want to wear. For this to work there needs to be relatively the same number of people wearing the colors so as to have a blended look (eg-red, green, blue. Avoid only one person in a color and everyone else in the other colors).

Special for Headshots
Bring several of tops/shirts darker than your skin tone.
If you're dark skinned, also bring tops that are lighter than your skin tone, but not white or very light tops.
Long sleeves are best for keeping the attention on your face.
Variance in fabric, texture, necks, collars, casual, dress, and sleeves is the key to selecting clothing for a
shoot. If all your shirts have the same type of collar, then the whole shoot might all seem like the same
look even though you've changed.
Overall, dark clothes work best. Don't bother bringing light shirts/pastels unless you have darker skin.
Black will not compete with any skin tone.

Avenue - Pictures at a Laundromat

Meet Avenue.... I had a great time doing a photo shoot with this really cool band. The original plan was to do some outdoor shots early in the morning by some warehouse buildings, but Josh the drummer could not make it due to some scheduling conflicts so we could not get together until 9pm that night. With the lack of natural light available we decided to go to a 24 hour Laundromat in Ogden Utah to shoot these great shots.

If you ever get a chance to see this really cool band live I would highly recommend it!!!! Thanks Avenue!!!
